What is a Sonic game?
Sonic games are widely known for being fast-paced, side-scrolling platform games in which you play as a dynamic little blue hedgehog who curls up into a ball to gain speed and take out enemies. Sonic fights against the evil Doctor Ivo Robotnik (Eggman) a villainous scientist who wants to capture small animals for his machiavellian experiments. In free Sonic games you will be able to roam huge worlds at full speed and discover endearing characters like his companion Tails or the mighty Knuckles.
What is the origin of Sonic's games?
In the early 1990s the developer Yuji Naka was given a mission by the boss of Sega in order to be able to make the Megadrive (Genesis) compete with the worldwide popularity of Nintendo and its super star Mario. Sega needed a benchmark game for its new console, but one that could stand out from the competition. Yuji Naka then imagined a fast and dynamic platform game in which the best players could complete each level as quickly as possible thanks to their skills. To find the hero who would accompany this concept, a drawing competition was launched and a little blue rabbit created by Naoto Ōshima was selected from among more than 200 sketches. But to adapt to the constraint of a fast game, the hero of the game should not make too much movement and it was then imagined that to defeat the enemies the hero had to curl into a ball. The choice was then limited between an armadillo and a hedgehog and it was the second that was chosen. Sonic the Hedgehog was then born and he became Sega's mascot. Many Sonic games were released on all generations of consoles to become the worldwide success we know today.
